A single-item inventory model for expected inventory order crossovers

چکیده

Expected inventory order crossovers occur if at the moment of ordering it is expected that orders will not arrive in the sequence they are ordered. Recent research has shown that (a) expected inventory order crossovers will be encountered more frequently in future, and that (b) use of a myopic order-up-to policy based on a stochastic dynamic programming approach leads to improved performance compared to the classical approach. In this paper, we show that the improved policy is still heuristic in nature, as it neglects several control options that are available on the various ordering moments and makes some restrictive assumptions with respect to the separability (i.e., decomposability) of the stochastic dynamic programming problem. We propose further improvements in the policy for situations where a quadratic cost function is appropriate. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Analysis and management of periodic review, order-up-to level inventory systems with order crossover

In this paper we investigate the (R, S) periodic review, order-up-to level inventory control system with stochastic demand and variable leadtimes. Variable leadtimes can lead to order crossover, in which some orders arrive out of sequence. Most theoretical studies of order-up-to inventory systems under variable leadtimes assume that crossovers do not occur and, in so doing, overestimate the sta...

Developing EOQ model with instantaneous deteriorating items for a Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI) system

This paper studies the economic-order-quantity model (EOQ) for deteriorating items in two cases (with and without shortages) to evaluate how vendor managed inventory (VMI) affects supply chain. We consider two-level supply chain (single supplier and a single retailer) with one instantaneous deteriorating item. A numerical example and sensitivity analysis are provided to illustrate the effect of...

Application of queuing theory in production-inventory optimization

This paper presents a mathematical model for an inventory control system in which customers’ demands and suppliers’ service time are considered as stochastic parameters. The proposed problem is solved through queuing theory for a single item. In this case, transitional probabilities are calculated in steady state. Afterward, the model is extended to the case of multi-item inventory systems. The...

Order crossovers

The control policies that are used in inventory management systems assume that orders arrive in the same sequence as they were ordered. Due to changes in supply chains and markets, this assumption is no longer valid. Therefore, traditional control policies have to be modified in order to be able to manage inventories in case of order crossovers. This paper aims at providing an improved understa...

Application of Uncertain Programming to an Inventory Model for Imperfect Quantity under Time Varying Demand

In the present paper we investigate a EOQ model for imperfect items under time variable linear demand. The defective items is being screened out by a 100 % screening process and then sold in a single batch by the end of the 100% screening process with a salvage price. The unsold perfect item during the cycle is sold at a different salvage price at the end of cycle. Two different types for cost ...
